How we make money

PingMyLawyer is free for clients and always will be. That makes people suspicious, and they are right to be. Here is the entire business model on one page.

The short version

We are paid a flat fee by a law firm, once, and only when a client asks us to introduce them to a different one. Nothing else pays us. Chasing your current firm earns us nothing at all.

You

Pay nothing. No fee, no card on file, no subscription, and never a percentage of your settlement.

Your current firm

Pays nothing, and is not allowed to. They cannot pay us to stop asking, to slow down, or to go away.

A new firm

Pays a flat introduction fee, but only if you decide to leave and ask us to find someone else.

What we will never do

Take a cut of your settlementWe are not lawyers and non-lawyers cannot share in legal fees. Even where somebody tried to structure it that way, we would not. Our fee is flat and has nothing to do with what your case is worth.
Accept money from the firm you are trying to reachThis is the one that matters. If your firm could pay us, everything else on this site would be theatre. They cannot, and they never will be able to.
Push you to switch attorneysWe never suggest leaving. The option appears only after your firm has ignored three written requests and two phone calls, and only you can choose it.
Sell your informationYour details go to your firm, because that is the service, and to another firm only if you personally ask for an introduction. Never to a list, a broker, or an advertiser.
Charge you laterThere is no trial, no upgrade, and no premium tier for clients. If that ever changed, it would apply to new sign ups only, and we would say so here first.

Why we can afford to be free

Because chasing a law firm costs us almost nothing. The work is an email, a follow up, and at most two short automated calls, all of it running on its own. The real cost of carrying one client through a full round is measured in cents.

What a full round of chasing involvesCost to us
Three professional emails to your firm, copied to youPennies
Two short phone calls placed by our assistantCents
Reading and passing on whatever they replyAutomated
Your signed authorization, stored and verifiableIncluded
What you payNothing

One introduction, on one client who decided to leave a firm that would not speak to them, covers a very large number of clients who stay exactly where they are. That is why we do not need your money, and why we are not tempted to want you to leave.

The incentive check, in one sentence. If we wanted referral fees, our interest would be to chase your firm badly so you get frustrated and leave. So we publish the record: every email, every call, and every reply appears on your case page with a date, and you are copied on all of it in real time. You can see whether we actually did the work.

If you do decide to move

We introduce you to a personal injury firm licensed in your state that has agreed to take client communication seriously. That firm pays us a flat marketing fee for the introduction. It is a fixed amount, agreed in advance, and it does not change with the size or the outcome of your case, so no firm can pay us more to be recommended first.

Who pays for the rest of it

Everything else, the servers, the phone line, the signing platform, is paid for out of the same introduction fees. There is no investor waiting to flip a switch and start charging clients, and there is no data deal behind the curtain.

If that ever changes

If we ever add a paid product, it will be sold to law firms and it will be described on this page before it launches. What will not change is the part that protects you: the firm currently handling your case can never pay us anything, for any reason.
